For some people, there’s still nothing like snuggling down with a good book. So books are the topic of this week’s edition of the Saturday Six.

1. What book or books are you currently reading?
I’m reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows again. The last time I read it was when it was first released. After buying the book at the midnight release party at my local bookstore, I went home and read it through the rest of the night and all through the next day until I finished it. It’s been a bit bitter-sweet revisiting the book after all this time because I spent time in the hospital not long after I finished it. Discussing the book with friends gave me something positive to focus on in the middle of a tough time.

2. What’s the last book you recall completing?
Other than HP #7, I’ve been on a bit of a decline when it comes to my To Be Read pile. I’ve been in some sort of comfort zone where I’m picking up re-reads instead of new-reads. It’s been happening with television and movies, too. For instance, I’ve got Due South in the DVD player as I type this post. It must be some sort of phase. :)

3. How often do you give a book as a gift?
I love to share books! My two sisters have finally gotten into reading after spending most of their lives on nothing more complicated than a grocery list, so I’ve been having the time of my life recommending titles and authors to them.

4. You decide to give a book store gift certificate as a gift: which store are you most likely to choose?
My sisters don’t have ereaders like I do, so I usually buy them gift cards for Amazon’s Kindle store. They read on their PCs and phones with the Kindle apps. My best friend has my old Sony Reader and a similar reading taste to mine, so I get her gift cards for places like All Romance Ebooks and Fictionwise. For hardbacks and paperbacks, I stick with Books-a-Million.

5. Take the quiz: Are You a Hardcover Book or a Paperback Book?
Call me a rebel, but I skipped the quiz… I rarely buy new hardbacks any more unless they are on clearance or from a very select set of authors. I prefer paperbacks and ebooks. I know this blog is called I Heart Paperbacks, but I have to be honest here and say that most of my book money this past year has been spent on ebooks. They are just so convenient and save on space in an already small house. :)

6. If you had your choice, would you prefer all-paperback or all-hardcover books in your own personal library?
A few years ago, I would have answered hardback without batting an eye. But after hauling my hardback collection around from place to place for a few years, I gave up on that dream. My back just couldn’t take it any more. Now I mostly have a handful of clearance hardbacks and my Harry Potter‘s. Everything else is a mix of mass market paperbacks, trade paperbacks, and ebooks.

What was your best day of the week last week and why? Yesterday was pretty nice, even though I had to be up before dawn for work. Work was just busy enough with a lot of nice customers. After work, I got to spend a little time with The Hubbs before he had to go to work. Then I spent the rest of the evening with Danny – he’s learned to say “Hello” and give high-fives. So cute!

What’s the longest you’ve ever gone without sleep? About three or four days. A few years ago, I went through a pretty bad patch in regards to my depression and anxiety. I had a few too many panic attacks and took to avoiding sleep. The less sleep I got, the more anxious I was, until it seemed like I couldn’t control anything. My OCD got out of control and I was checking locks and the stove three or four times every hour. It got very ugly in the end and I had to get help. I read somewhere that you can go about 264 (?) hours without sleep before your body completely shuts down and you die. That’s a morbid thought.

Is how old you look and/or how old you feel right now different from your actual age? At the moment, I feel much younger than I am despite the “fine lines” creeping up on me around the eyes. “Fine lines” be damned! :)

I’d replace a few of the cd’s that were stolen from me back when I was a single lady living in a tiny apartment complex that had an untrustworthy maintenance crew.

If you had a chance to see any band @ any venue, who would you see and where?

Hmm. Coldplay, maybe. Rufus Wainwright, definitely.

If there was one band that you’d like to see reform, who would it be?

Pain. A local band that was very popular with my friends and I in college. They were so much fun! A sort of ska/punk kind of band with a lot of silly lyrics. Oh, how I miss them!

If you could only have one section of the bookstore to visit, which section would it be?

The clearance section! I am a sucker for a good sale.

If you could only subscribe to one publication for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I couldn’t say. I don’t really read many magazines. Most of this sort of thing is read online – blogs and such. Now and again I’ll pick up a copy of Stargate magazine or read a bit of The Onion.

What activity always makes you lose track of time?

Looking at vids on YouTube. Actually, that’s what I’ve been <strike>wasting time on</strike> doing this evening. Here, I’ll share:

My only disappointment in the video is that it doesn’t include the incredibly hot, yet far too short, David Hewlett kiss from the film Century Hotel. Here’s the only vid of just the kiss, but it’s on a 5 minute loop so feel free to stop watching after about 20 seconds or so.

A blurb hasn’t been released for the book yet so let’s just take a peek at the cover, shall we? There’s a little hint of man-titty going on there, though there is a lack of visible nips. A nice enough cover, what with the black and white in contrast with the other colors. Still, I would gladly trade in the semi-naked man chests for something a little more “noir” looking, but that’s just me.

He thinks he has everything. Until someone tries to steal it.

For friends and lovers Orlando Coppersmith and Jonty Stewart, a visit to Bath starts out full of promise. While Orlando assesses the value of some old manuscripts, Jonty plans to finish his book of sonnets. Nothing exciting…until they are asked to investigate the mysterious death of a prostitute.

Then Orlando discovers that the famous curse of Macbeth extends far beyond the stage. It’s bad enough that Jonty gets drawn into a local theatre’s rehearsals of the play. The producer is none other than Jimmy Harding, a friend from Jonty’s university days who clearly finds his old pal irresistible. Worse, Jimmy makes sure Orlando knows it, posing the greatest threat so far to their happiness.

With Jonty involved in the play, Orlando must do his sleuthing alone. Meanwhile, Jonty finds himself sorely tempted by Jimmy’s undeniable allure. Even if Orlando solves the murder, his only reward could be burying his and Jonty’s love in an early grave…
