Do you have a book wish list for the holidays? (Or is that one of those ‘duh’ questions?) If so, what’s on it?
Yes, I do. :-) I keep one here on my Good Reads profile. I have a lot of different types of books on there, but most of it is romance and erotica, predominantly of the m/m variety.
Are you very specific when someone asks what you want for a gift? Or do you throw caution to the wind and say, “Oh any book you choose….” Or do you prefer a bookstore gift card?
I’d probably ask for a bookstore gift card. Since I buy books on a pretty regular basis, I would hate for someone to get me something I’d already splurged on.
Do you buy books for people on your gift list? Do you choose books for them that you like and try to influence their reading (or hope they’ll loan it to you when they’re done)? Or do you get specific titles from your giftee?
I usually try to find a specific title or author for the few readers amongst my friends and family. My mom loves mysteries, but hates romances, so I have to be pretty careful about what I get her. My friend, Paige, likes most of what I like (except for the m/m romances) so she’s the easiest to gift as far as books are concerned. I may get my little sister a book this year. Thanks to the Twilight phenom, she’s reading – voluntarily! – but her reading scope hasn’t expanded much beyond YA vampires. But, hey! Reading!
Where do you buy your book gifts? Do you shop at local independent bookstores, or the “big box” stores? or do you shop online?
I have two local bookstores where I live. One’s a “big box” store, the other is a “Mom & Pop”. I usually go to the “big box” place because if I’m not going to find the book I’m looking for in the store, at least I can get a coffee at the cafe while I’m there. The “Mom & Pop” deals mostly with literary stuff and local authors, but it’s just not been the same since the new owners took over and merged it with their video store. Now it’s kind of tacky. Plus, no coffee!

My little sister, who’s 15 now, also started getting into reading with Twilight. I bought her the first of the Luxe books by Anna Godbersen and the first Gemma Doyle book by Libba Bray last year and she enjoyed them both and continued with those series. She’s gone back to vampires somewhat but at least i know she knows there are other options!
After making my Weekly Geeks post I added another half dozen books to my wishlist. Sigh.
